I have sat and read a lot of the posts with great interest. I recently purchased a Condor Supreme. Finally was able to take it out to the trap range yesterday. Even though I have only put 25 rounds through the gun, it was sweet.

I got it home to clean it and that prompts this question. When I ran the soft scrubber through it with cleaner, out comes a lot of plastic. No brainer there - it is part fo the wad melted or captured by the ports. It took a LOT of cleaning to get the rest of it out - including a brash brush.

Question - will the build up of plastic decrease with time as the barrel is worn in?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Very Respectfully - Dave in SOCAL

Dave,

Unfortunately, I doubt it. Cleaning ports is one of the big drawbacks to ported barrels. They collect dirt.

Plus, they're louder than regular barrels.

And, if you use them on the trap field, you'll often spew plastic on the guys shooting beside you.

And they don't reduce recoil.

The only thing they do, and some doubt how effectively, is they "may" slightly reduce muzzle jump so your barrel doesn't come up quite as much on the first shot, so you might get a quicker second shot. Personally, I think a well fitting gun works better than ports.

Your gun came with them so you're stuck with them, but I'd never pay soemone to put ports on a gun.

On the other hand, some folks love them. I just have no use for them.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for all the info. When I start to shoot in my local Trap league, I will watch to see if I blow plastic all over my team mates. Hope not. I ended up getting some bore cleaner that is supposed to take out the plastic. Time will tell. As far as having a ported barrel and the inherent issues with it, I will just have to learn how to deal with them. Like I said in my original post, I have not shot Trap in a formal setting and this gun was unfired. Still shot a 15. The gun shoots nice.

Thanks Again!!

Dave

bretzky,

Contrary to popular belief, at least for shotguns, porting, or using ported choke tubes, does not reduce recoil.

Having your tubes ported is a waste of money.

The number one thing to reduce recoil, is to have the gun fit you well. Absolutely.

Other than that, your best bet is to add weight and put on a better recoil pad.

Now that I've ported my basic, no glory, down n dirty condor, i've increased my scores in sporting & trap. That poor ******* that used to beat me with $7000 custom rod takes a look at mine every time I beat em. Shakes his head and says" how much did you pay for this?"

Proof that it's the Indian, and not the arrow (or the bow.)

Though in reality, I doubt porting had anything to do with it.
