Angry Uberti Dealers listed on site that no longer sell Uberti Products.

I am interested in purchasing a Uberti pistol, so I checked on the web site for dealers in my area. I have found two that are listed as dealers, but no longer sell Uberti products, nor will they order one for me.

They are..

CASH IN A FLASH PAWN INC.
1280 NORTH MARKET ST.
SHREVEPORT, LA 71107
PH: (318) 222-1831

LORANTS, INC.
1220 SHREVEPORT-BARKSDALE HIGHWAY
SHREVEPORT, LA 71134

Bass Pro does carry Uberti products, but if you want something that they do not have, you are out of luck, the same goes for Academy sports.

I don't suppose there are any other dealers in this area that might sell Uberti products?

I swear, Bass Pro has turned into a glorified clothing store...

I do not know specifically about your area, but most dealers should be able to order the one you want. At the very least, they should be able to do a transfer to you should you find one online to buy.

What I would do (and have done) is haunt your local shops when you are ready to buy when you know what exactly you want. Forget the chain and big box stores if it's not one of their regular items. They work out of their own warehouses and distribution center network, not from wholesalers like your independent gunshops. If it's not in the catalog, they can't get it.

Ask the folks running the shops if they will order it for you. Be flexible!!! Most times, if you are willing to work with them, they'll work with you. If it's not a rush order (and chances are a single action isn't gonna be one), ask them if they have a regular order comin' up with one of their distributors that carries what you want that they can piggyback your special order onto and tell them that you are willing to wait a couple weeks if they can do it that way. Some wholesale houses have a minimum dollar amount or number of items per order and tack on a surcharge for small or single item orders. The higher it is on the wholesale side, the less the retailer makes on the back end.

Actual cost plus 15% (he's gotta make SOME profit to stay in business) is a pretty normal mark up. For single item orders, his cost (including any surcharge), plus 15%, plus actual shipping is reasonable. I don't mind paying the shipping on a special order because it's a added cost he wouldn't face if I hadn't made the order. If he's willing to order for me, I WANT him to make money so he'll be around when I need something ordered later on.

If they won't do it, leave and find someplace else that will.

Some places only want to sell what they have on the shelves. They have money wrapped up in it already and they have no interest in ordering something special. If that's the way they want to do business, they need to be aware that some folks like myself prefer to do business where I feel it is appreciated. If somebody is willing to go out of their way to get me what I want, I'll shop there more often than not.

Be aware of what a fair market price is for the gun you want before ordering. A LOT of place that really don't want to do a special order will quote the MSRP (Suggested retail price) plus shipping and maybe even another fee on top of that just to discourage folks from special ordering or to fleece a pilgrim that doesn't know any better.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies!!

I've about decided that when I do buy, I will be buying two. Hopefully that will entice one of the local dealers into doing business with me.

Thanks!

If this is for SASS or another CAS competition, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!! Stop. Put up the checkbook (or credit card).

Gun selection (especially pistols) is strictly a personal preference kind of thing in CAS. I've seen everything from Buntlines to 3" Sheriff's models used (and once a feller using 1 of each) in the 10 years I've been competing in every caliber from .32 to .45 loaded so light with smokeless powder you could see the bullet going down range under the right lighting conditions to a feller that used a drop tube to get even more BP in his cases (if there's a posse shooting at an adjacent bay, his shots will register on their shot timers they are so loud).

What feels good in your hand today in the shop may turn into the worst thing for you in a couple months. Everybody (me included) just 'knew' what we needed for CAS shooting before we ever stepped foot on the range. That's why we all either have traded through a bunch of guns or (like I have done over the last decade) we have a bunch of pistols and rifles that are now loaners or safe queens. Been there, done that and wasted enough money to buy a Ballard or a Shiloh Sharps and a t-shirt.

Go to the SASS homepage, look up the local (that's a relative term in CAS but you ought to be in good shape in LA) clubs and contact the person listed. Let him know you are brand new at this and want to watch a match or two. After the match, ASK folks if you can try a couple rounds out of their guns. Everybody's been where you are and cowboy Action shooters are the friendliest bunch you'll ever find. Heck, most are more than happy to have a chance to show off their pride and joy's.

Try everything you can wrap your little grubby fingers around- even if you don't think you'll like it. DO NOT go right to the gun shop Monday after the match. You will change your mind at least 3 times that week (or that day). The first feller I mentored changed his mind 3 times in the hour it took to drive back from the match and would have wasted a bunch of money if I hadn't slowed him down. Keep gathering information as to what works best for YOU for a couple matches then you'll have a firm idea of what you want to spend your money on. Everybody's gonna sing the praises of their choices. Listen, nod, take any tidbit of information you can gather from it to heart, and then just ignore them. Their preferences ain't gonna help you a bit when YOU are on the firing line and the RO asks, "Is the shooter ready? Do you understand the course of fire?"

Buy with your head, not your heart. Guns are too expensive to go wasting cash money on something you ain't gonna like shooting.
