"Early" Nova versus "Current" Nova weight???

I'm in the market for a Nova and was told by a local gunshop owner that the earlier Nova's are a little heavier than the current production Nova's and therefore have less recoil. Any truth to this or is he just trying to sell me his earlier gun (2002 manufacture)?

The weight of the Nova has been at just under 8lbs since manufactured as far as I know. Varrying weights just depends on the barrel & options
