    Default Uberti Quigley 45/70 ammo

Can I shoot factory smokless ammo with this rifle? Or do I need to shoot black powder ammo??? I ahve been reloading with reloader 7 smokless powder.

    Thanks

If it be me....I would shoot the lightest...smoothest loads you CAN FIND....AND WORK YOUR WAY UP!

Have been using smokless loads in my Uberti sharps and highwall with no problem. I cast the bullets and used a light load from Lee's book and worked up a little bit. Not looking for long range but hunt hogs with both rifles, have had no problems.

    hope you have success!

I shoot a couple of Marlin 1895's and have some great loads with cast boolits from 300gr to 405gr. I like to load them down and they are a hoot!

I don't own the Quigley rifle as it is a bit out of my price range but my dream gun. Now I do shoot 45-70 in a Rossi Rio Grande for hunting. For targets I've been loading using Starline Brass, Badman Cast 405 gr bullets and Trailboss with Winchester LR primers. Another popular load is Unique behind a 300 gr or 405 gr cast bullet, but I've not tried it myself yet.

Now for hunting I use either IMR 3031, IMR 4198 or Reloader 7 powders depending on what I'm going after. Other than that the brass and bullets etc are the same. I use the Sharps, trapdoor load levels as my shoulder being old can't take the pounding of Modern Lever guns. Even with Trailboss though it will kill deer or pigs easily if you do your job and hit it right.
