pretty rare in the UK,franchi are nowhere near as popular as in the rest of europe and USA.
one of the stickers in the box says "nero wood", what the **** is that......anyone?
it appears to be real wood and not a plastic stock with transfer.

Unless I miss my guess, you have what was marketed in the U.S. as a "Weather Coat" stock. It is a wood stock but it has a dipped coating on it. It gives the impression of a much nicer grain than the wood actually has. I believe the idea was to provide a finish that was much more resistant to the elements than a conventional oil or polymer finish.

My brother has a similar stock on a 720. It is functional and good looking.

    Enjoy you new gun.

you may be right there, but iam still unsure!.
it marks easy enough with a finger nail like real wood, and the forened is defo real wood as i can see both sides of it. did they do a grifone with fake finish? looks like i will need to take the butt pad off and take a peek and look for clues. you may well be right, i will keep this updated.

That's what it looks like to me as well.
It looks good at a distance, but it lacks depth.
You could likely confirm by removing the butt plate looking closely at the cross section of the end. The film should appear as very thin veneer.

had the stock butt plate off yesterday, does not seem to be weathercoated stock.
i can see the grain of the wood running right through the stock and cannot find a veneer or similar
showing on the edges. will post a pic when i get the chance.
