Couger 8045 not loading properly

I need help with my 8045. I am using Federal 230 grain ball ammo for target shooting. Every other round I have to rap the rear of the slide to get the round to chamber properly. I always keep my handguns clean and well lubricated.

I was told that these handguns were very reliable and not very picky about the ammo you used in them.

I open to any ideas as to what the problem might be.

Is this the first round being chambered? or is it happening while you are firing the weapon?

Sometimes when I pull the slide back and release it, it wont fully engage. I have to push it forward until it is engaged. Then after I fire a round or to, the slid will blow back and not fully pace the cartridge into the breach. I have to bump it in with the palm of my hand.

I gave Stoeger a call. They said I should probably send it into them for some minor adjustments. It's under warranty so it wont be a problem. Just hope it wont take to long!!!

What you're having is a failure to feed. It could be caused by several things. Before you ship the pistol off this is what I would suggest:

1. Mark all your magazines and try them. If it only occurs with one mag you've found the problem.

2. Try a different brand ammo of factory ammo

3. Get a Hoppes Tornado bore brush and some Hoppes No 9 and SCRUB the chamber, load ramp, bore, the extractor and slide rails. When you scrub the slide you want front sight down so the solvent doesn't get into the internal parts. Wipe off all the solvent. Make sure the pistol is properly lubricated. If the pistol is new it was coated at the factory with a preservative against rust, which doesn't do a great job at lubricating. It's important to remove it.

4. Make sure your recoil spring is properly seated.

I have several Cougars and haven't had any problems with them. Let me know how you make out.
