Affinity - Remove Shot Plug
It is legal in my area to have four cartridges in the magazine. I can't find the instructions in the manual. How do you remove the Affinity shot plug? Do I need to hire a gunsmith?
Also, the carrier latch is difficult to de-press. It's difficult to unload a cartridge in the magazine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just looked at my Affinity and could not figure it out. It might be one of those rare shotguns where you have to remove the magazine tube to remove the plug. I am going to call Franchi on Tuesday. They have always been responsive. What do you mean by the carrier latch?
I'm thinking the same. It looks like you have to remove the tube. Most plugs can be removed by removing the retaining ring.
Carrier latch is the term used in the manual. Its the button you push when you want to unload a cartridge in the magazine, not the chamber. When holding the shotgun upside down, it's the button on the left of the cartridge. When you press the button, the cartridge should exit the magazine. My button is very hard to push. I can only unload by cycling the cartridges using the bolt.
Thanks for the help. Let me know what Franchi says.

I don't own an Affinity, but I read that the magazine capacity is 4+1. Isn't that correct?
COMMON SPECIFICATIONS: Magazine Capacity: 4+1 Chokes: IC,M,F and wrench Length of Pull: 14.25" Drop at Heel: Adjustable 2-2.5" Drop at Comb: 1.5" Type of Sights: Fiber optic red-bar front sight Minimum recommended load: 3-dram, 1-1/8 ounce; 20-Gauge 7/8 ounce, 1275 FPS.
Yes, but the shotgun comes with a shot plug installed. The plug is a plastic piece inside the tube to limit the amount of shells loaded in the magazine. With the plug installed, I can load one in the chamber and two in the magazine (2+1). In some areas, regulations limit the hunter from having more that three rounds in the shotgun. Not having a shot plug installed is a violation.
Plugs from other manufacturers are easily removed by taking out the retaining ring, removing the plug, and replacing the ring. I can't figure out how to remove the retaining ring without damaging it.
Someone pop off the mag cap and shoot a picture.
Is there a slot for a screwdriver to be inserted, like on the 48?
I just found this photo uploaded by someone on another board.
It looks like a standard snap ring plier job to me.
What's the problem?
When I received the shotgun, I tried removing the retaining ring, but it wouldn't budge and started to bend. I fired a box of no. 8s. The first shot jammed. The other 24 fired without issue.
While cleaning it, noticed a little play in the ring and tried to pry it out again with a flat head screwdriver. It didn't come out without using some force, but it came out.
I guess it just had to be fired a few times to loosen it up. I got the plug out.
I have a picture, but couldn't figure out how to upload.
Thanks for the help.
Go to the local Sears or Napa and get a pair of snap ring pliers. Worth the few dollars.
Thanks. I realize now I used the wrong tool.
