Thread: New franchi affinity

    Default New franchi affinity

My Franchi Affinity 20ga came with chokes(cylinder, modified and full) my question is I have always used the Improved Cylinder choke and never havw had a more open Cylinder. Is there that much difference? I mainly use it on doves and quail. Once in a while crows.

Not much difference in the two.

How much distance is lost versus the IC on the cylinder?

Strictly a guess. I'd say you effective pattern range might drop off by 5 yards.

I got the same 3 chokes with my Affinity and the cylinder choke ink balls skeet targets on stations 1, 7 & 8.

Do what I did. Go to Briley's web site and buy an IC choke. I prefer IC for pheasants and grouse. For quail I'd think your cylinder choke would be fine. Doves come at all ranges and the IC or even Mod might be the way to go.

No distance will be lost. The Cylinder pattern will more widely dispersed at the given distance. Velocities and trajectories would be virtually equal.

agree with tucker, the shot will go the same distance at the same speed. the pattern density will be different when it gets to the target.
cylinder may pattern the same as improved or even modified depending on what ammo its fed. have a few shots at a pattern plate with your intended ammo and see how it goes.

I believe the question wasn't one of how far or fast shot will travel but what the effective killing range would be. Birds are killed by multiple hits from small projectiles. As the shot charge travels further from the gun, the pattern opens up more and more. The space between hits becomes greater and at some point, a bird would either go trough the pattern or be hit by too few pellets to provide a clean humane kill.

The energy of each individual pellet will not be altered by the choke it goes through but the number of those pellets reaching the target at a given range will. If choke had no effect on the effective lethal range of a shotgun, we'd all just shoot cylinder bore at all ranges and chokes would never have been invented.

Shot size and velocity will indeed affect pattern but if you are using one std load of the light shot most often used for doves and quail, choke will make a difference.

I got a 12GA synthetic semi-auto today. I have a little problem to assemble the gun by following the user guide. When I pull the bolt all the back and lock the bolt, it is impossible to install the barrel assembly in to the chamber mouth. Has anybody the same problem and how to fix it when assemble the gun. Thank you very much.

    Nope.
    Here's the question right here.

I'll grant you that he may have intended to ask about effective killing range, but that is not what he asked.

You do not install the barrel with the bolt locked back. You merely ease the bolt back about 2 inches and then slip the barrel into place.
