Angry STF 3000 firing and ejector problems

I just bought a new STF 3000 (Item #31091) from Dick's Sporting Goods. I really like the look and feel of this gun. The price was pretty nice too. So far there are two things of concern to me. One is pretty serious. When you load the gun and fire it, one barrel will fire and then on the second trigger pull nothing. Second, the ejectors are not working. When you open the gun they are not locking in the back position when the gun is closed. It appears the retainers are not going up far enough. Does anyone know what I can do to take care of these problems myself, or do I need to return the gun?

Not sure what you mean when you say:

"When you open the gun they (the ejectors) are not locking in the back position when the gun is closed."

This gun, I believe, has extractors, not ejectors, which means it wil only lift the shells out of the chamber, not pop them out.

Thank you for the reply. I looked at my manual again and it does say quote "STF 3000, Single Trigger, Ejector Model"

    OK.

The way to tell for sure is to look at the ejector/extractor.

If it is one piece shaped kind of like a bowtie, and works for both barrels, it is just an extractor.

If it is two triangular shaped pieces, independent of each other (one for the top barrel, one for the bottom) it is ejectors.

In either case, I'm not sure I follow what the problem is?

On the second barrel not firing, this is a common complaint of Condor buyers. You can either take it apart and look to see what's going on (if you're mechanically inclined and this doesn't scare you) or you can send it back to Stoeger.

Sometimes, if you change the safety over to manual, this will cure the problem. Ihave instructions for changing the safety to manual.

Mine does have the two triangular shaped ejectors. To try and clarify, when you open the gun, instead of popping out to pop the shells out, they just slide out as the barrel drops and push the shells out about a half inch. The two pieces that slide up to hold them back when the barrel closes just are not moving up far enough.

Now onto the not firing on second pull. I may be interested in converting to a manual safety. When I take the stock off to look at the mechanics of the firing mechanism, what should I look for that prevents the second shot?

Thank you for all your help.

OK, before we declare that you have a problem:

    1. The ejectors are designed so that they won't "eject" a shell unless you've fired that barrel. They are intended only to extract (lift the hull so you can pull it out with your hands) if you open the gun after not having fired a shot. Are the ejectors not working at all, all the time? Or do they only work after you have taken a shot? If they are not working at all, that needs to be fixed by Stoeger. You can test this with snap caps or an empty hull.

    2. Are you having the problem with the second barrel firing when you're actually using live ammunition, or when you're dry-firing it with snap caps? This gun has an inertial reset trigger for the second shot. It needs the recoil of the first shot being fired to reset the trigger for the second shot. If you're not getting it to fire when you're testing it at home, you may not have a problem. If you're not getting a second shot when you're using live ammo, then you have a problem that needs to be fixed by Stoeger.

Before you send it to Stoeger, see if you can't get Dick's to send it back for you.

Also, I should have asked earlier; did you clean the gun thoroughly before you started using it? A lot of problems show up because folks just take their guns out of the box and start using them without following the cleaning instructions in the owner's manual.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you the instructions on how to convert the safety to manual. Pretty easy. Just don't send it to Stoeger with the modification in place. It voids the warranty.

My STF is a single trigger, ejector model
After I fire both barrels (If it doesn't misfire) and open the action
    the shells fly out
