    Default cc holster for cougar

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a good concealed carry holster for the 8040?

Safariland makes some great holsters for the Cougar.

Don Hume has several outside/inside options. Use the Beretta Cougar 8040 as your sizing guide. 721 OT and JIT Slide are good examples.

If you're in the market for OWB/paddle, Blade-Tech makes its standard Kydex model for the Cougar. The nice thing about Blade-Tech's holsters is that you can swap out attachments, so if you buy the paddle model, and also buy a Stingray belt loop or Tek-Lok, you can switch them out as needed with nothing more than a Phillips screwdriver. I bought one as a range holster, but it works fine for CCW as well.

They also do a tuckable IWB, if that's more your thing.

Note that the Cougar is in the pick lists as "Beretta Cougar 8000/8040," so you're not going to find it if you look for "Stoeger."
