Thread: .45LC Bullet

  1. Default .45LC Bullet

I am going to start reloading for my .45LC (assuming my press, dies, and cases come off backorder) and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions on a bullet. I purchased Hornady 240gr. XTP FMJ HP's simply because they were a familiar bullet, but I am open to suggestions.

    Thanks.
My Dad always said "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." What I wanna know is "What in the **** does that have to do with mowing the grass?"

    Default Remington 250 grain RN

You can buy bulk Remington 250 grain LRN bullets from Graf's and Midwayusa and possibly others. The bullets have a messy lube but are great plinking bullets for 45 Colt. Or I would use a cast bullet from Oregon Trail. My personal choice would be a RNFP but a SWC also works of course. I prefer Unique powder.

Good luck finding primers, powder, or bullets tho. Altho the ammo shortage seems to be easing up components are still scarce.

I just began reloading 45 LC as well. I found some 255 grain SWC at a gunshow this winter and have shot a few. Nothing "Amazing" but good plinkin material. I'm using Win 231 rather than Unique cause that was all I could find that I had data for in Cowboy Action ammo.

I feel kinda fortunate in finding reloading stuff for the 45 LC. I picked up 2 boxes of Cowboy Action ammo at a Cabela's and a little gun shop had some pistol primers. The big "find" was a set of dies at a gun show I picked up for $20 and those 255 gain bullets at $12/50. I wanted to use the Unique powder but couldn't find any, so I settled on the Win 231.
I've been reloading those Cowboy action cases. They go "boom" and make holes so I'm happy.

Well I finally got my press and some dies and a buddy gave me some primers. I'm using winchester brass, Accurate #5 (10gr.) and Hornady XTP JHP (240gr.). Seems to work pretty good and the pressure is still pretty low, but I will be switching to a lead SWC somewhere between 185 and 230gr. We will see how that does.
