Default M1 Stock Spring Length ?

Anyone have any ideas. I have a M1 super 90, and am changing the stock spring as its a bit tired after firing over 60,000, mostly heavy loads. gun is approx 6 yrs old from new.

When taken out of the recoil spring tube, it measures 16 inches uncompressed.

Now for the weird part my gunsmith has ordered in a replacement spring for me which is claimed to be a Benelli factory replacement. the problem is, its only 14 inches long uncompressed !!!! and slightly lighter gauge metal too.

My question is, have benelli made a shorter spring for fitting into the m1 in the last 6 years that is approx 14 inches ( uncompressed), or is this basically not the factory specification (i.e the correct length).
this is the only way I can ascertain if this is a genuine part.

can anyone help me at all ??

Please can you reply to [email protected] as I check this regularly as well as to the msg thread.

    thanks
    Chris
