A skeet choke should have a constriction of about 0.005". A cylinder choke has no restriction.

The following restrictions are "common (by restrictions I mean the inside diameter of the choke is this much less than the inside diameter of the barrel bore.)

    All in inches:

    Cylinder - 0.000
    Skeet - 0.005
    Improved Cylinder - 0.010
    Light Modified - 0.015
    Modified - 0.020
    Improved Modified - 0.025
    Light Full - 0.030
    Full - 0.035
    Extra Full - 0.040

Not all companies offer all these choke restrictions.

Most just have Full, IM, Mod, IC, Skeet, and Cylinder.

And just for reference, a "typical" 12 gauge bore is 0.729 inches.

I was the same way jeffro67. I've never had so many chokes for one gun before. My question is which choke would be the best for dove hunting? Last time I went I used the modified and had really good luck. also is it ture that when shooting steel your not supposed to use a full choke? I was told that shooting steel with a modified is the same as shooting a full with lead..
