Thread: Schofield and Holy Black?

    Default Schofield and Holy Black?

I've been interested in the Uberti Schofield replica guns. But, I'd like to know, before buying one, that they will shoot, and continue to shoot, for an entire two day SASS main match when shooting only ammunition loaded with genuine black powder. Not some sub/replica, but real Holy Black.

If not, I'm not interested in them.

    Well, pard.
The Schofields and the New Model Russian both have very close tolerances. They are outstanding, extremely acurate guns and I wouldn't part with my Rusky for anything, but they do not function as well as some other styles with BP. That's not to say that they won't do it, they will -- but it does require frequent cleaning or at least a good spraying down in the cylinder/breechface area between stages for them to avoid binding up with repeated BP shooting.

Great guns, but they do require more attention than others when shooting BP

    Thanks Dave,

That's about what I guessed. I have no doubt that the guns are well made, but I see no valid reason why they can't be made to shoot black powder as well as the originals they are copies of.

I'd like to see a new look taken at this fine reproduction gun with an eye to making them work well with black powder.
