For long range black powder rifle cartridge rifle competition, has anyone out there had any experience with both of these rounds? I am debating which one to get. I know the .45-70 is more available, but the .45-90 was developed for long range target competition. The downside seems to me to be the limited choice of rifles in .45-90. Any thoughts or experience?

EMF offers the New Generation Sharps 1874 in .45/70 starting at $720 and a .45/120 for $900.
I'd opt for the .45/70 unless shooting against "Quigley" website:

If you have any doubts about the 45/70, there is an article: ".45/70 at Two Miles:The Sandy Hook Tests of 1879.

    Check it out.
