Impulse purchase, Uberti SAA at Cablela's

Went to Cabela's here in Kansas City to pick up some ammo, took a look at the "Millenium" single action revolver, 4 3/4 barrel, brass backstrap and trigger guard, matte finish in .45 LC. They had it on sale for $200 normally $250. Found out it was made by Uberti and seemed to recall that they were good quality. Always wanted a SAA type just for fun and bought it. Box indicates it is a Cattleman model made for Cabela's. Nice trigger pull, seems well made. Any comments on quality/ value for my purpose? Also any handload recommendations, I know I need to stay in same level as for Colt SAA not Rugers according to my manual. Also are these OK to dry fire or will that lead to damage? Thanks.

I don’t have the Millenium but do have a couple cattlemans from Taylor’s & Co. and by Uberti. They are fine shootin’ side arms. I think the difference is finish. Mine are CCH the Millenium is a black matte finish, if I remember correctly. I shoot my Cattlemans more than I shoot my Rugers.

As far as a load goes, I use 5.4 gr of Tite-group with 250 gr bullet. I find this a pretty nice load.

I don’t dry fire anything. I also use snap-caps if I gotta “dry” fire them. Just being safe.

Able to sneak out and shoot it a little today, Ultramax 250 gr. lead, about 750 fps according to the website. Have not shot one of these in years, forgot how much fun it is. Now I have to buy the dies to reload. I know this is probably the least expensive one they make with the flat black finish and brass guard and strap, just wondering how good the $200 price is. Can't seem to find any of this model listed anywhere. May buy two more for my sons if this a great deal. Thanks for any help. (added text, what is bore diameter on these, does it call for a .454 or .451 bullet.)

Hi, new here and wanted to say hello. Ron, I think you got a good deal, as Uburti's rrp is about US $450 from memory. I'm in australia and just paid AUS $550 second hand, ($780.00 new, exchange rate is about .60c) bought 2 with brass strap and luv them, they shoot well and are of good quality, most people here in oz shoot replica's, as "real" colts cost over AUS $2000.00 . If your happy with the price buy them.
I found that when I got home and held them I forgot all about the cost of buying them.

Mine are 44-40 and I have my rounds loaded to 1500 fps from a 20" barrel for normal shooting, and I have some loaded to cowboy specs for competion days. They both fire with ease and are easy on the wrist. I agree with Mustang Ash don't dry fire your SAA. I also have a 44-40 winchester 1892 carbine which my smith says is over a 100 years old. ( he grimices when i tell him i still use it)
