I have a 1885 Uberti High Wall in 45-70 that I am using for BPCR sillhouette. Its a beautiful rifle and very accurate at distances to 500 meters. My problem is that when shooting prone (especially with the tang sight elevated for the longer ranges) the stock is very uncomfortable. Is there any hope for Uberti making a silhouette model with a heavier barrel, higher combed stock and a shotgun butplate?

Where I shoot I see quite a few custom high walls but I think it makes little sense to spend the amount of a custom rifle when the basics of a really quality rifle are so affordable.

    Any thoughts or comments???

    Thanks
    Gil

I have the basic modle with 34" octagonal barrel. It had the curved steel butplate and I too found it uncomfortable. What I did was made a wood filler piece to make a flat but plate and put a kick killer lace up recoil pad on it and it's much more comforatable to shoot.

Gil/Tx, ***This is a little off topic, Sorry***

Wow, accurate out to 500 meters, what type of sights are you using?

I just bought a High Wall for sihouettes and the hammer wouldn't engage the sear after only nine shots but it seemed to be a real shooter at a hundred yards (that was all I was able to sight it in on). The only thing is I want better sights so I am going to save up during the next 5 or so weeks.

I wondered what is working for you.

    Thanks in advance

    Treegunner,
I read your last post and I wish I could give you some comforting words. I don't know anything about Uberti's warranty station. I think I saw something in the FAC's about it being somewhere on the east coast. I took mine to Lee Shaver for a trigger and action job. He did a really nice job on the trigger and installed his .50 aperature front sights on it. I have a Hoke rear sight that I am very pleased with. I shoot black powder silhouette and have really enjoyed learning about the tricks of finding an accurate load. I've been shooting this for only about a year (infrequently) and have just worked my way up to class A. I'm disappointed to get no response to my post, It doesn't seem that very many Uberti single shot shooters hang around here. As I said, this is a really nice rifle for the price but that stock from the prone position is brutal. Pedersoli makes a high combed shotgun stock for their target model sharps replicas and most (if not all) of the domestic makers offer that option. Uberti has a really good following in the six-gun market and has tried to give their customers what they need for their game. Shame they can't do the same for us.

Wish you good luck on your problem. If you can't get any help from Uberti, call Lee Shaver in Lamar, Mo at 417-682-3330. He knows the rifle and is a very knowledgeable gun smith. He is also the Pedersoli warranty station. If nothing else he might be able to tell you how to get help.

Thanks for the info on Lee Shaver I am going to hang onto that info in case I ever want to have some work done on it.

Uberti customer service seemed to be very interested in making things right so hopefully I will get it back soon without any scratches or dings.

I am telling you for the money it seems to be a awesome rifle and I hope you get some answers to your question.

    Take Care
