Does anyone know how the fixed sights are on the cartridge model 1873 Cattleman models? Do they shoot pretty close to point of aim at say 25 yards or less?? Or is it safer to go with the adjustable sight models?

i recently bought (2) 5.5" cattlemen in 45 colt. both of these revolvers shot about 6-7"'s left of center @ 25 yds but were good for elevation. had to put them in a vise and turn barrels to point of aim. otherwise, pretty good guns for the price.

Ahem, dear dixie brick, I 've recently bought a new dragoon revolver. It has the fixed front blade/hammer nose notch sights. I havent fired it yet. Do you know if the point of aim out- of - the -box is going to be close ? And did you mean you actually bent the barrel of your revolver to rectify the point of aim on your gun ? sounds pretty hard core. yours rollinolin
Er, Roll......If you read what Dixie wrote, they said they "TURNED" the barrel, they didn't "bend" it. There is a difference.
Barrels are threaded into the frame. It's not uncommon to be off a bit in windage. Three of the four that I have shoot dead on at 25 yds. The fourth shoots a couple inches to the left, but not enough to matter in CAS.

after having put a tape to the targets it was more like 10"s. one gun refused to move more than 5" back to the right, the other moved to center @25 yds but the front sight was at about a 25 degree angle to the left making the sight picture quite unmanageable. both have been sent back to the importer -tristar- for repair or replacement. we'll see what happens!
