Renaissance Elite Question

Hi folks,
I got my new RE yesterday. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is the release lever on top of the gun supposed to center when the barrel is closed? Mine is REALLY stiff, and when I close the gun it just stays over to the right. I can with some force move it closer to center, but it's still pretty far off.

Congrats of the purchase!
Post up some pics if you can.

The lever not returning to dead center is perfectly normal behaviour.
Over time, as the mechanism wear in, it will get closer to center.

Great! Thanks for the info! I was a little worried. The gun is BEAUTIFUL! I'll post some pics over the weekend. I probably won't get to shoot it until next Wednesday, but that will give me plenty of time to obsess over it. Actually, the whole thing is quite stiff. I wonder how long it will take to loosen up a little, or how much of a difference cleaning the thick gunk off of will make...

Certainly clean the gunk off, but it's still going to be stiff for some time.

I actually used a bit of lapping compound on my Veloce to free up the action a bit.

Looking at the Renaissance, I would expect the design to be nearly identical to the Veloce.

The Veloce has an automatic safety that can be somewhat annoying to some shooters.

If you want to disable the auto safety, take a look at your gun and see how it compares to Veloce depicted here on shotgunworld.com.

If the design is the same, then the procedure should similar.

I would highly recommend a diamond fine grit lapping compound - you can find it at stores that supply tool and die or machine shops. Use it very sparingly, apply it to the fore end first - snap it into place and then work the fold with your RE upside down fo about 10 minutes - take it apart, clean it with WD-40 (this is the best to desolve the lapping compund and remove it from all areas. Reapply and repeat with a small amount of lapping compound - clean it again, oil it put it together. You will find that like my RE Classic 12 gauge that it got much better. If anyone tells you to sand down the contact points - forget that advice. Stay with the lapping compound (fine grit only).
