712 Raptor Question

Hello,
I am very close to purchasing a 712 raptor and need some clarification. Is the raptor gas driven? The website shows an inertia driven logo on the raptor page. I thought inertia was non-gas. Can some please provide some input?
Also what are the extra cleaning steps with a gas driven gun?

The link you posted is a link to the new Inertia Raptor offered by Franchi in Italy. (click on the contacts link, it will show their address in Italy.) This is why all the specs on the page are shown in metric measurements. This gun is NOT the 712 Raptor sold in the states, as shown on the franchi USA site.

The 712 Raptor is gas driven, and is a wonderful gun. At least I enjoy shooting mine very much.

As for cleaning the gas system., it's very straight forward. Clean the piston, and the gas ports. Both are easily cleaned once you've removed the barrel.

Thanks for the info. I knew it was from oversees, but maybe that is whst is on the horison.

I put down the cash today on a new Raptor. Can't wait to try it out....
The wood is beautiful, but one thing that bugged me was the hollowness of the forearm. When you tap on the forearm it sounds so hollow and cheap. I got over it once I did the same to guns costing 3X as much and they also sounded cheap. Some much more than the raptor!

Well my 712 RAPTOR is definitely gas driven, and I love it. Most newer semi's do have a very thin walled fore stock, thus the hollow sound. Some older semi's had the gass piston inside the end of the mag tube (i.e. winchester for one) this limited mag capacity to 2 or 3 rounds. To preserve mag capacity they put the piston aroung the outside of the mag tube. The only way to gain the extra space needed for this configuration is to make the side walls of the fore stock thinner.

The Franchi line is Inertia Driven™ and does not rely on gas valves or pistons

Not ALL of the Franchi line are inertia driven.

There is only one Franchi Model currently offered in the U.S.A. with the Inertia drive system, and that is the new I-12. All of the rest are gas driven, this includes all 600 series guns (now discontinued but still found on some dealer shelves), all 700 series guns (including the Raptor), and all 900 series guns. The 48-AL series uses the recoiling barrel system designed by John Browning.

Any Inertia driven Franchi's you may see on line, (other than the I-12) are only offered in europe by Franchi Italy, and are not currently exported to the U.S.A. At least not yet. If sombody here has one, it was either a dealer sample that found it's way onto the open market, or somebody bought it while on vacation in Europe and brought it back with them. I won't tell the BATF if you don't.
