612 SL Jamming

I am having an issue with a brand new 612 SL jamming. I just took it to the skeet range and shot a wide selection of loads! The nitro express loads cycled, but the lighter Winchester trap loads would not even come out of the chamber (2 3/4 Dram). The 3 dram loads barely cycled or would jam! So how do I adjust this thing, I read that some people turned the gas piston upside down, will this work? Right now the spring on the piston is closer to the trigger then the cap to remove the stock! Any help would greatly be appreciated!!!

Right out of the box? If it is, you will need to clean all of the breakin grease and then lube i tup good. Take it back out and shoot quite a few light loads through it and loosen it up some. I bought the 912 last year and it did the same thing to me. After that it has given me zero problems. I just purchased the 612, actually havent even picked it up yet, I will let you know if I have any problems...

I have the Franchi 612 synthetic stock that I purchased about 2 months ago. I use Breakfree CLP to lubricate my gun which includes all the parts. Gun Test Mag rated Breakfee #1 in their test of gun oils. The Military has been using it since that 1980 for cleaning, lubricating and rust prevention. It was the only oil that surpassed the stringent Military spec, they test all oils in the 1970's. Also make sure that you have the gas piston with the light marking installed so that the light mark points back to the receiver. The gun also has two gas ports that are in the gas piston hub of the barrel, get you some pipe cleaners and use Breakfree to clean these two ports. I have shot about 15 boxes of shells thru mine and it has cycled everytime without a single hiccup. I reload, and I reloaded some very light 1oz loads that chronographed at 1095 FPS and it cycled all those without a single hiccup. I even shot 6 boxes of shells thru mine once without cleaning and still cycled everytime without a single jam. Clean it, lubricate it with BreakFree, point the gas piston in the right direction and you should be ready to go.

I went ahead a tore it down yesterday after I did the post and there was some very nasty brown paste like grease on the Receiver. I clean that all off and lube everything down with Rem oil. I will pick up some of the oil that you mentioned, but I just used what I had on hand. I was wondering how I was going to clean the gas ports the pipe cleaner will do the job, so again thank you! Now for the gas piston, I do not see any markings on it for light loads or heavy loads. I disappointed that in the manual it does not say anything about swtiching it around for different types of loads. It just has a very heavy spring on one half of it, so the question is for light loads should this spring be facing the trigger or the end of the barrel? I am strting ot believe that the spring should be facing the barrel.

I looked at the Franchi site and the only SL that I saw was the Alcione SL....I am not sure if this gun is gas operated like the 612...It may be just recoil operated...Someone else here will have to answer.

They actually named the over and under and the 612 wrong. The semi auto is the 612 sl!

The piston on the 612 that you have does not need to be adjusted for light or heavy loads. It goes on only one way, that is with the coil spring toward the REAR of the gun. I have a 612 VS with a piston just like yours.

As recommended above, keep the piston and all moving parts well lubricated with Breakfree CLP or similar lightweight oil (but NOT WD-40) and shoot about 10 boxes of shells through the gun to break it in good. Heavy shells will work better during this breakin process.

Don't mean to get into an information scrum.....but, the 'SL' is termed for the Sporting Clays O/U - *Alcione SL (12) Sport *.

I've owned one since '98-'99 season and owe plenty of thanks to the people at Franchi for such a gem!

If you're refering to the *612 Sporting* -or- *612* then you've got the gas operated 12ga. auto-loader.
