I am in the process of buying a new auto

    So why a franchi 612?

I am looking at the browning gold fusion and the 612.

To a lesser extent the Beretta 391 Tenkys because of the cost.

    Thanks

I purchased the Franchi 612 about 6 weeks ago, my brother suggested the Gun based on several Gun Test articles. I purchased the gun based on it's balance and feel. For less than $600 you are getting a great designed gun. It comes with shims to adjust drop and cast. I patterned mine with several different chokes and the gun patterns great and is dead on the money accurate. Unscrew the forearm knob and you can take the gun down for cleaning...with the gas piston and recoil spring in the forearm it makes it a breeze to clean. It also has two gas ports to the barrel which you can clean with pipe cleaners. It comes with 3 chokes. You can take the magazine plug out and get 5 shells in the magazine plus one in the chamber. It has cycled everything I have thrown at it...from 1oz light loads to the 3" magnum shells with 2oz of lead for Turkeys. I know time will tell, but right now I love to shoot the gun. It has even gotten me back into reloading after an absence of close to 15 years. I really think that you will enjoy the gun.

I have to tell you that this is one of the best kept secrets of the gun world the franchi 612 is a fantastic gun! I used mine for about a year with absolutely no problems what so ever and I must have put 2500-3000 rounds through it! I had to part with it due to a money problem but now I am in the process of buying another one! I absolutely love it! It is much better than most of the other semi auto's out there!

I just purchased a 612 camo coated on Aug. 5. I did a quick pattern and load test on it and it cycled everthing so far. My partner and I are hardcore crow hunters that's part of the reason I got the camo version. It took me about a year deciding on this shotgun. I like the Stoeger 2000 also I guess you could call that the poor man's Bennelli. Anyway crow season just stated back up on the first day out I got two out of three birds which came in. It's still to hot and they aren't hanging together all that much. It'll get better as the fall comes on. So far I,m happy with the 612.

Several other people have listed good reasons why to buy a 612. I would like to add a couple more.

First, I like the design of the 612 a LOT. It incorporates about all the desirable features that a person could want in a new semi-auto shotgun. It has the recoil spring around the magazine tube where it is easily accessable and where it may do a slightly better job than if it were in the buttstock. It also has a rotary locking bolt which I believe is a better design than the conventional bolts which have the tilt locking blocks inside them. The design of this 612 is essentially the same as the design of the Beretta Extrema except the 612 won't shoot the 3 1/2" shells. It will only go up to 3" shells which is plenty big enough for me. In other words, the 612 is kind of like a minature Beretta Extrema at about 1/2 the price.

Second, as I mentioned above, the 612 is VERY similar to the Beretta automatics and is actually better designed, IMO, than the 390's and 391's. Also, some parts (such as choke tubes) are interchangeable with the Beretta mobile chokes.

And finally, the 612 is a much better PRICE! I paid $500 for my new 612 with a synthetic stock.
