912 gas adjustment

how easy is the franchi model 912 adjustible vavle load is it something that can be done on the field or is it sometihng a little more complicated? do you have to take apart the gun or do you just push osme type of lever?

If it is like the Franchi 612 all you have to do is unscrew the forearm and switch the gas piston around...from heavy to light and vice versa. You can do it in the field.

If you are shooting 3 1/2" stuff, you may want to put in the recoil reducer too.

I have the 912 and it's super easy! I don't change mine until I get into 3" shells and larger.

That is the way I do my Franchi 612 semi-auto, I leave the gas piston set for light as long as i am shooting the 2-3/4 stuff but switch it to heavy when I shoot the 3" Magnum shells. I am an Engineer and I love the simple design of the gas piston and recoil spring plus the locking lug in the action of the gun. I patterned mine with a roll of 36" wide paper from Walmart. Mine is dead on the money with all the chokes. The gun has great balance and comes with shims to adjust cast and drop which I used to set the gun up for me. The gun has cycled everything I have thrown at it from light 1oz loads to heavy 3" magnum Turkey loads without a single hiccup. The cycle time is fast which is great for a second shot. The recoil spring and gas piston is located in the forearm to facilitate take down and cleaning which you can do in about 20 minutes. I am going to baptise it on 9-1-03 on a Dove hunt with a bunch of guys from work. We are going to Mount Olive, NC to hunt on 80 acreas of milage and corn which will be cut 1 week prior to hunt. The gun came with 3 chokes and I have added an extended tube skeet choke, a full choke, a extra full choke and a Turkey choke called the undertaker. The undertaker and extra full choke pattern about the same.

I just purchased the 612 SL, there is nothing in the booklet on how to adjust for a light load or heavy load? I guess how do you do this is my question! I have been having some jamming issues and maybe this thing is set in a high shell setting? Any help would be appricated!!

The pistons which have the spring on them will only fit one way and that is with the spring down toward the rear of the gun. You could slide it on the magazine tube the other way, but the spring end of the piston won't fit into the cylinder attached to the barrel. Actually, this is better than the other style piston which has no spring because no adjustment is necessary for light or heavy loads. Just load and shoot regardless of whether it's a light or heavy load.
