I am getting a new Condor o/u tonight and know from reading several thread on this site that I need to give it a good cleaning before I take it to the feild. Can anybody tell me what to use to clean it? I have a general solvent, but is this stout enough?

    Thanks

I like to use automotive brake cleaner. It cuts through any grease, and your Condor's metal parts will probably be sticky with rust inhibitive grease when you get it.

DO NOT allow the brake cleaner to get onto the wood parts, and if it does, wipe it off immediately, or it will damage the finish.

Also, once the brake cleaner evaporates, give all the metal parts a thin spray of Rem Oil.

I also use a concoction called "Ed's Red" that you'll find if you do an internet search for Ed's Red Bore Cleaner.

Transmittion Fluid, acetone, turpentine, and kerosene, as I recall, or something like that.

Like the brake cleaner, keep it off your wood parts.

Of course, there's just something about the scent of Hoppe's No. 9 that I just love.

If you feel really ambitious, you might want to take the stock off and give it a good spraying of the brake cleaner, followed by drying, then a good thin coating of Rem Oil.

For that, you'll need a screwdriver to get the recoil pad off, and a long, 10" 3/8" drive extension and an 11 mm socket.

Don't do it if you're uncomfortable with it, or you are not sure what you're doing.

    Go here ... www.patchworm.com.

I bought their field kit and 500 patches for $30 shipped. This kit can clean a .22 up to a .12 guage and fits in a breathe mint can. It also has no metal so you won't be scaring the crown on any of your guns (especially the .22s).

    Great stuff!
