After looking through this forum and reading about the 2000 I decided to get one last week, here are some comments about my experience to help anyone considering getting one:

Gun: Model 2000, 24" bbl, Timber HD.
Accessories: 5 chokes; Skeet - Turkey
No Owners Manual, bought it at Dicks in Toledo,OH they had three other new 2000's all without manuals.

After receiving the gun I took off the packing grease and lubed it with generic gun oil. Took it to shoot the next day.

    Shot 150 rounds Saturday; 1 box Win HV Steel #2's 3", 2 box's Win game loads 1oz #6 2-3/4 and 3 box's Rem dove loads 7/8oz #8's.

Decided to test against the "break in" theory buy putting two Win game loads and two Rem dove's through it first, the shells ejected fine.

Used up most of the Win game loads first, found out that the gun will eject the shells fine but 1 out of 10 will hang up when cycling into the chamber, this also happened using the Win HV Steel 3". I think it has something to do with the softer shell plastic, this never happened with the Remington loads.

After about 100 rounds the bolt release button became more and more difficult to press, I attributed this to the spring on the release needing oiled before shooting out of the box - which I did not do. The release worked fine after pulling the trigger assembly and oiling the spring.

The gun pointed and shot very well, I do wish they made shims for the stock because I beat the crap out of my face getting down on a good line. Wood to Wood!

One thing I've never seen or know why it was happening was the spark at the end of the barrel after shooting some of the lead loads, it didn't happen everytime and I don't know if other guns do this but it didn't seem to affect my shooting. Could have been because of the 24" barrel, I've never shot one before.

Over all I enjoyed the 2000 despite some of the negatives listed above, the 8 other guy's I shoot with were really impressed with the finish and action of the auto for only $400. One of which shoots a Benelli SBE, which will not cycle a 7/8oz and some 1oz loads. I also considered the Verona auto but I know someone who has one and hates it, shell loading is difficult and it was at the smith after 50 rounds through it.

Beats the Mossberg 500 I've been shooting the last 15 years, hope the 2000 lasts that long.

I like my 2000 too, I was little disheartened to hear of some of the complaints people have had but fortunately I don't share any of them.
I did have cycling problems when I first shot the gun but that was because I was shooting light 7/8 target loads. Shooting game loads is no problem.
The stories I've heard from the gun stores is that the owners are really enjoying the guns and problems are few.

Mine had a broken firing pin right out of the box. I took it out of the box, locked the bolt open and I heard the rattle of a small loose piece inside the receiver. After tilting the gun a bit, the tip of the firing pin fell out of the receiver. The guys at the gun store immediately got on the phone with Stoeger Canada and in two days they had my new firing pin. No major harm done...

On the first 500 rounds I had about 2 or 3 misfires. I was using 1.125oz 2.75 dram loads. I was told that at the early stage of the "break in" period I should have used 3 dram loads. Sometimes the recoil will be enough to spit out the empty shell, but it won't be enough to fully compress the recoil spring. Therefore when the bolt goes back, it sometimes will not be pushed with enough force to fully lock the rotating bolt head, which will result in a misfire.

After shooting about 50 rounds out through the full choke tube, the inside of the tube started peeling out a thin layer of what I assumed was the chrome lining. It wasn't lead because it wouldn't melt under a propane lighter, and it was very brittle. I went to the gun store and the guys over there gave a me a very nice briley tube free of charge.

At about the 5,000 round mark, the bolt handle flew out while I was shooting sporting clays. I was never able to find that handle again. So I went to the gun store and the guys over there had a new handle for me again in two days. This time, though, it was not for free, I had to pay $40 (Canadian).

I am at around the 9,000 round mark and have had very occasional failures to feed (no more than 6) specially on cold, wet days, with 2.75 dram loads.

Overall my shooting experience has been very good, largely aided by the good customer support the gun store has given me. Basically, if I have any problem, I go over to them and they fix it before my next weekend shoot comes up. If it weren't for the quick responses of the guys at the gun store, I'd probably get rid of the Stoeger and bought something else.

The gun fits me very well out of the box and is very reliable. You don't have to be a cleaning freak just to keep it cycling reliable. I've gone for about 1,000 rounds without cleaning it with no apparent effect on reliability. It also shoots very well. On new years eve I won $75 dollars on a 3 bird shoot sporting clays event. I wasn't the top score, but I was within the 90th percentile, and I used my Stoeger 2000 all the way through.

I also lost the bolt handle for my 2000 slug gun. It happened after putting about 100 slugs through it. Later in deer season, the bolt that holds the sight ramp down worked its way looseand became dislodged while hunting. My gun was then returned to the factory 2 months ago when the bolt locked up inside the chamber. When it was working, it was nice to shoot, but all of these problems are sure a pain in the butt.

I have put close to 1000 rounds through the 2000 since it was purchased and am happy with it's performance. The Winchester shells still hang occasionally, but it's nice to be able to shoot 7/8 oz loads. A couple of guy's I shoot with have bought the 11-87 synthetic which will accept 3-1/2 loads but are kicking themselves because they have to shoot 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 oz, gets expensive when shooting all day. I had to tighten the bolt for the stock this past weekend, my father has 2 condor's which had the same problem but some blue loctite takes care of it. I really need some shims for my stock, does anyone have a solution for this or even designs for shims so I can have some machined? Every Monday I come to work with a bruise on my cheek and the guy's ask me if my wife was drinking again.
