Similarities between Benelli and Stoeger?

Yeah, how similar are they? I'm speaking specifically of the autoloaders.

I've seen some posts from folks saying they look so similar they wonder if the parts are interchangeable.

So how similar are they?
What does the Benelli have that the Stoeger does not? Action design? Locking bolt? etc?

i have a stoeger 2000 auto.....the stoeger has the same licensed benelli locking revolving bolt action ..it is the only gun besides benelli to have this......also a benelli mercury recoil reducer will fit into the stock of a stoeger 2000....that is about the only thing that i have found that will interchange with the two guns..the stoeger barrell stops at the reciever and the benelli goes deep into the reciever....both recievers are made of cast alluminum but the benelli with the better finish and better wood....I take my stoeger to sporting clays shoots all the time and always get compliments on my "benelli"...the only difference is the price!!! My stoeger with about two hundred dollars of mods still only cost me about 650$ where as the benelli is proced at about 1300$ I plan to keep my stoeger until it falls apart, which does not seem to be happening any time soon!!

OH!, and stoeger also uses a benelli/berreta choke tube.

one more thing...both guns have the ineria reciol system..but, the stoeger has the spring around the mag tube where the benelli has it in the stock... both work on the same princable...the both have pretty harsh recoil unless modified. OK , I think that is all this time!!!

when you say modified what do you mean?when you got your gun did you get a choke that was all black and real thick? I guess it's a turkey choke.

For those who own the Stoeger 2000, is the magazine tube blocked off at the end? Or does it "go" all the way through? Would it be possible to put a mag extension tube on a 2000 if someone were to make one?

Griz, The magazine is open at the end. There is a clip to hold the spring in. A tube extension should be easy to do. A Benelli one might even fit.

Recoil is a subjective thing. It bothers some people and not others. The 2000 kicks more than a gas auto but less than a A-5 or its brothers.

Beretta makes the Pintail which is a copy of the SBE. Breda/Tristar has also been liscensed to make guns based on the Benelli inertia recoil system. You can check them out on their web-site. I have not yet seen them in any shops or gun shows.

The Benelli has a better fit and finish. It also costs almost twice as much.

Chef (shotgunworld deja vu ), that observation on cost is indeed true, even if one accpets that it will cost 150-300 to get an extended tube made.

I asked Stoeger customer service if an M1 tube would fit, and they said "no" but sounded uncertain. Perhaps I can find someone selling the mag tube extensions for Benellis and can then see if they will fit a 2000. Or perhaps it will be easier and cheaper to adapt a Benelli extension to a 2000 than to have one made by itself. No way to tell until I get a 2000, though, but I think my decision on the issue of which shotgun to get is solidifying.

duckman...when i say modified i mean that i modified my gun for fit and the type of shooting that i do...basically i personalized my gun..there probably isn't another one out there like it!!! i only got the silver choke tubes...all five..i guess you could mic the tube to see how thick the walls are but then it would be a gamble shooting steel. If you have any ?'s about your gun let me know , i went through about eveery peice of my gun to "modify" it to work and feel like a softer, smoother gun and now i wouldn't trade it for the world...well, at least not now, due to how much time and effort i have put into it!!!

I had a question about the 5 chokes that came with my stoeger. Can you shoot steel shot through all of them. I know you probably can the turkey choke, but what about the others?
