I may have to get my R-1 one out of the safe and she what I can find with it this fall.
Steve
The gas piston does come apart and I found that it had to be cleaned after each and every firing or mine would get gunked up and misfire.
I wrote a thread on it with photos.
See it here.

My R-1 would also do the same thing when the gas piston was dirty. The dirty piston would prevent the bolt from locking into battery and the firing pin would fire but fail to strike the primer.

I use a bore snake in the field, but take it apart and remove the bolt and clean it with a carbon fiber rod from the breach once I get home. I store mine with it broken down, not sure if they have...
Congrats on you new R-1,, don't really take anything special as far as tools goes. I like to use a punch or allen wrench to remove the piston nut, but you can use the end of the barrel nut that holds...

The DNZ mount replaces the rail, it is a ring/rail combo. I don't see away to shim the front or back independently.

Look at your factory rail. One end is thicker than the other, and if memory serves me correctly the factory rail is marked with front. I tried a DNZ mount and discovered the same problem you are...
They are just plastic plugs push them out.

Got to be some new blood out there putting their R-1s to use???

Congrats on your new rifle. Check out these two old threads for some ideas, and clean it, clean it, clean it. Pay attention to the gas piston thread.

I have a little experience hunting with a 300WM R-1, check out this thread.

Thanks Tuck,
I'm still out hunting hard, just walking with a different bank stick these days. Here are a few of the critters I ran into this season.
PWS Black Bear...
They are plastic, push them out with something pointy.

No Sir, My R-1 and I have had a great run. I have shot out the barrel and have chosen a bolt action as my go to weapon. I have some big bear hunts planned and I needed more firepower.
Good luck...
Moved up here about 6 years ago. I'm home now, without doubt the most beautiful place I have ever been. The winters can be tough. However you learn how to adjust and find things to do inside.

Still around, it's still winter up here in the great land. I did get a chance to get out and shoot my R-1 some, having a hard time getting it to group. I have fired over 2000 rounds with it and I'm...
The other issue I can see with clamping the mount to the barrel on a R-1 is that it would have to be removed to disassemble and clean the rifle, because of the way the foregrip slides off. When I...
I was looking at their site and did see the barrel adapter. Too much added metal for me, plus it looks like it could cause rust between it and the barrel.
Just cut and paste and replace the stars...
The R-1 has an unique nut that holds the foregrip on. I have never seen a Harris mountable rest that would mount to it. This forum blocks certain key words to cut down on spam, that is why you can't...
I bought my wife a setup made by Stoney Point. Works great and is not too heavy, she has taken several big game animals with it including bears.
