Barrels

Hey all, first time Franchi owner (AL 48) and first time poster! Anyway, what I have is an older model (40+ years) with a fixed modified choke. I doubt that I can shoot steel shot without eventually ruining the choke. What I'm wondering is whether newer AL 48 barrels with adjustable chokes are compatible with the older guns.

If not, I've considered installing a poly-choke or something similar. Anyone have experience with these?
