View Full Version : X20 Suppressor questions

I'm curious about the X20 Suppressor and how quiet it really is. Since the spring is the noisy part I can't imagine it's all that quiet.
I have a Benjamin Trail NP and a Remington Vantage 1200, these guns are identical except for the pneumatic gas spring in the Benj, and the standard steel coil spring in the Rem. The Benj is day and night quieter than the Rem, and that is all spring noise. Even if I bury the barrel of the Rem into tightly wadded up towels that absorb all the sound, it's still many times louder than the Benj.
So is the X20S like my Rem and the towels, or has there been some other mod they don't mention to make the spring quieter?
I want the quietest gun possible and I assume that was the whole point of the suppressor project. Am I right?
So why no gas?
Do they plan on making one with gas?
Will the generic gas spring like in my Benj fit into a Stoeger X20S?
Will the barrel of an X20S fit on a generic China gun like the two I have?

One last question: It almost looks like they sealed the end of the suppressor so it can't be cleaned, normally I'd say impossible, but these days with cutting pennies everywhere it woudn't surprise me. If they made that mistake then has anyone tried to cut it off and replace the end with something removable? Maybe threaded in or pinned.

Thank you

It's not ultra-quiet, but it's quiet enough. I've fired with people walking down the street at 60 yards away and they didn't even turn their heads.
It will go through a period dieseling when new. It took mine about 100 or so rounds to stop doing it altogether. When it does diesel, it's as loud a .22 with sub-sonics.
I have the .177. Articles indicate that the .22 is more quiet.

I don't know about the closed suppressor. No issues with mine yet, but I've only fired about 300 rounds.

Chevota, I also have the Benjamin Trail NP and have fired about 200 rounds thru it.
It is a quiet air gun but it still has the heavy "spring recoil" and is hold sensitive".

USA silencer laws are very open about exactly what defines a firearm silencer.
For example: if you could remove the silencer from an air gun and somehow attach it to a firearm (even with duct tape) and it made the firearm quieter (even for just one shot) It is a silencer even when it is mounted on the Air Gun.
You could be jailed and fined for having it in your possession.
Shrouded barrels seem to be the answer to not being able to remove them from the air gun and use them on a firearm.
Thus keeping them from being classified as a firearm silencer.

I am hoping Stoeger does make a NP version of the X20 as a "gas spring" is much superior to a metal one.
If they ever do I will add it to my collection quickly.

The "quietest" air gun ???? try a PCP type with a shrouded barrel suppressor like the Benjamin Mauderer or AirForce Talon.

Thanks for the re: guys.
I bought the gun and posted a review. Very disappointing...
Yes, the law regarding the suppressor is scary. Technically I could be throw in jail for 20 years for owning this gun. The shrouded barrels aren't really an answer because I could easily fit one to a firearm, especially a 22 rimfire. Even the suppressor on this 177 stoeger can be put on one, in fact I think it would be the easiest one to convert. I could have it up and running on my 22 in a matter of minutes. The passage thru the Stoeger is at least 1/4", probably larger. I assume so they could make one fit all calibers rather than make the correct and more effective one for each. That's probably why it's doesn't work so hot. So adapting it to a 22 would be a quick hacksaw or hot butter knife and some duct tape and you're done. If that doesn't warrant a conviction under their laws I don't know what does. Why the law exists to begin with I don't know, England has the opposite views we do without problems.
