Hello all -

I just purchased 2 new Stoeger/Uberti old finish 1873 with 5 1/2" barrels. Beautiful looking and feeling guns except for the stamp differences on the sides of the barrels (one 45Colt - the other cal.45lc?)
Shot them for the first time @ 25' to see POA-POI and the 45Colt gun shot dead on! The cal.45lc gun shoots consistantly 2" right and 2 1/2" low....I can fix low easy enough but what can be done so both guns hit the same? Turning the barrel? How much $?
Secondly - When trying to unload the cal.45lc gun the cylinder does not time correctly for unloading...I have to turn the cylinder slightly a little further for the cartridge to clear at the frame....
Factory said they will fix it but they are 8 weeks out right now and SASS is just getting going....Can I "re-time this myself (I am mechanically capable/equipped but have never worked on revolvers) or is this only a job for the factory. I understand warranty issues but I need both guns now.
Thank you all for any help/assistance/ideas you can give. Be safe, Ladder72

My Uberti Cattleman is marked 45LC.

45 Colt = 45LC

LC = 45 Long Colt

I'm sure you knew all that but just putting it out there for those who don't.

As to shooting to the right, turning the barrel is not a good idea since you would be unscrewing it. You can turn a barrel to the left as that tightens the barrel in the frame.

A gunsmith can remove the barrel and cut off the end and try to get the barrel to tighten up earlier so as to cant the sight to the right.

As to the timing issue I would let the factory handle it. Would also see if they could fix POI.

Thanks for the info...I believe I will just live with the differences until the summers over and send it in then to see if the factory can make any changes for me. Thanks again, Ladder72

Ladder 72, the way I adjust the hight is to lower the front sight. This raises point of aim and point of impact. Most companies use 250 gr RN lead winchester ammo to sight in and they are just looking for a group not that much accuracy. Find your type ammo your are going to shoot or load and fire for accuracy, if it to is low file down the front sight. If it is right, take a small jewelers file and take off small amounts from the left side of the V notch on the rear sight until it falls in point of aim. This is aways better than trying to turn a barrel into point of aim. Again it's best to take small amounts then check again. Like the old saying,"measure twice cut once". Vic
