View Full Version : Uberti Colt Hammer Falls to Half-cocked Position

I bought a Uberti Cattleman .45 back in November. After putting about 80 rounds through it I started noticing the hammer would occasionally fall to the half-cocked position. I thought it was "operator error".
However, it has been getting progressively more frequent. Now it will do this usually around twice in six rounds. I've put about 200 rounds through it to date.
Has anyone else had this problem?
-- I did search first before posting.
-- I called Stoeger, but they were closed for the day. (gosh-durn timezones!)

That is exactly what happened on my Uberti Bisley. It turned out to be a bad sear engagement on the hammer/trigger assembly. Had to send the gun in to get fixed again. Yes, I had to send it in earlier because the trigger was set dangerously light from the factory, probably related to the same issue.
Anyway, they fixed it by replacing the hammer and the trigger, both of which had horrible finishes compared to the originals. I have since switched to Rugers and I can say that I am much more happy.
Good Luck Pard!

I looked at the Colt, the Uberti, the Beretta, and the Ruger...and settled on the Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .357 magnum for both finish and price...the only thing I don't like about the Ruger is the disclaimer on the barrel...I'm thinking of spending the $$ to have it removed.
Anyone out there had this done to their Ruger...?! I'm looking for contacts and prices...thanks

I just found this message board so sorry for the late reply. I am a cowboy fast draw competitor and I had all kinds of trouble with the cam on the hammer being to soft and then the full **** notch. after trying a new hammer and trigger the problem did not go away, I should say it came back. I bought a conversion kit to a coil spring from AWA, Brownells sells this also and the hammer was of top quality. All troubles went away and I would put this gun up against any for timing, smoothness.
