I got this 1873 Uberti Cattleman that's Black Powder Cap & Ball. I can't seem to find any info on it. Anyone know where I can get info on it?

An 1873 Cattleman is a cartridge gun, not cap and ball. It will shoot smokeless or black even though it may be a black powder frame. Try a Uberti Dealer for printed info.

There is an 1873 single action that looks exactly like the cartridge gun except that the cylinder has nipples and the gun functions as a cap and ball revolver. The hammer blow is offset enough from center that a cartridge cylinder won't work in it. It does not have a loading lever, so you have to pull the cylinder to load it. It even has an ejector for cartridges, even though there are no cartridges to be ejected.
I don't think they have been very popular--most people would rather use the traditionally designed cap & ball model with a loading lever. Haven't seen any instructions for them, but it is no problem to use a short starter to load the chambers when the cylinder is out of the gun. For safety, install the cylinder before capping the nipples.

Oh azhighpoint do a lil more research before you try drawin down on a smokin_gun... LOL! It is a Cap & Ball partner. There was a run of them by UBERTI made for England where they can't own cartridge guns. They got popular and the price was right. Therefore they are still being sold. They are a really nice piece, I tried to put a pic on here but guess they won't let you.

Gunsmith you nailed it, that's the one ... I love it. No wedge to bend ie Colt, smoother action and tighter than a 1858 Remington. They have brought them out in a 5 1/2" (Pieta) mines a 7 1/2" and I don't plan on practicing quickdraw with it. But I am pretty fast.. lol.

Hey smoking-gun! I have two 1873 BP SAA! As you stated, they were born out of necessity after cartridge handguns were banned in the UK. Mine have the 4.75" and 7.5" barrels. I love 'em.
Got myself an 1861 Navy and a 1873 Sporting rifle by Uberti also.
One question, did I read you right when you said there was an aftermarket loader available from EMF? Do you have a link? I could really dowithan extra.
Regards,
Bob

Bob how do you like the 1861 Navy? I was checking for something differant to get and ran across, at DWG, an 1862 "Pocket Navy" I think it was $240.00 Uberti. I'll paste the discription of it and a Pic link. P/N; RH0415
Often erronously called the Model 1853, the Pocket Navy shared serial numbers
with the Model 1862 Police pistol. Has one piece grips with a European walnut
stock. Comes with a color casehardened steel frame. Barrel is a .36 caliber,
blued, 5 1/2", tapered octagon. Brass backstrap and oval triggerguard. Color
casehardened loading lever and hammer. Cylinder engraved w/stagecoach "hold-up"
scene. Manufactured by Uberti/Italy.

Smokin-Gun,
The 1861 Navy is a great little revolver! Mine is the one also cut for a shoulder stock. Certainly looks purdy with that attached!
Like all of the Uberties I have or have had, it shoots well. With Triple 7 and a conical bullet dropped from a Lee mold it will give 3" cosistantly at 25yds, after opening up the rear notch. It will give 7" at 50 yds with the stock.
I've alsways had a hankering for the "pocket" models. There's just something about a "belly gun"! I'm particularly fond of the 1849, but just don't like brass back staps/frames.
At $240 it's almost disposable! Go for it!!
Thanks for the link of the loader, one now coming my way!!
Regards,
Bob.

The 1851 is probably the the best looking revolver ever made! Including the Python! You made a good choice there SG!
That EMF 1863 Remington, now there's a "real" steamboat gamblers hideaway. And those prices. You wouldn't believe what we pay in the UK!
I'm in Florida in August, I wonder, should I...................!!!!LOL

I feel I gotta disagree with your choice for best looking pistol, Bob. How about the Colt 1862 Police? If you are looking for something different try asking your local gunshop or Henry Krank for a peek at the Palmetto Arms revolvers. They do a cracking Whitney .36 Navy (I recently tested one and put eighty (80!) rounds through it without any sign of binding from the powder fouling) and, to my knowledge, the only repro of the Colt Roots revolver. Prices are very keen.

The 1862 Police is the size I like, but you can't beat an octagonal barrel for looks, in my book. I think also, I'm the only one I know who loves that big "elbow joint" rammer!! LOL Explains my liking for the 1849!
A Colt Roots, now that would be interesting.......

A Colt Roots, now that would be interesting....... The 1862 Police looks good although I perfer the look of the 1860 pocket navy with octagon barrel 5shot .36. But the Colt 1851 Navy really is the Untimate in looks and feel/balance. That Whitney is a very good choice. I was going to get a Rogers & Spencers as they are in .44 but opted to stay with my favorite shooter and home protection gun the 1858 Remington. I did purchase at Gunbroker. com a NIB Uberti 1851 Navy for $150 I got very lucky Bob.
