It might have been an impluse buy but I was in the local Bass Pro Shops today and they just put on display the first Uberti '66 they had ever got. I couldn't resist; I may have paid a little too much but I did get a 10% discount using their credit card.

Anyway, I've never handled a brass receiver and wanted to ask how to clean and care for this rifle. It is so beautiful I would like to keep it that way as best I can.

BTW: this is a 45LC. I understand that brass receivers cannot handle hot loads -- are standard Cowboy loads okay or should they also be further downloaded?

I bought one about 6 months ago. The brass is very soft and probably will stretch eventually - even with normal cowboy loads, although the lighter the bullet, the better. I've noticed that it is starting to show little indentations in the top of the receiver from ejected shell cases. Mine has a 24" bbl and shoots about 4-5" high at 30 yds, but is close to being point of aim at 100 yds. I haven't decided if I want to keep the brass looking shiny, or let it 'weather' to a more dull finish. Look at the movies Open Range, Silverado, or The Journeyman -they all have some of the characters using '66's.
