Hello all...nice to be a part of the forum.
I recently purchased an interesting book called "The Illustrated Book of Guns". I usually shy away from this type of book because while the pictures are good, the information tends to be a bit scanty. Not so in this case. Excellent photos and detailed captions on each gun shown.
In the book was a picture of reproduction Murdoch Scottish all metal flintlock, supposedly made by Uberti. I am not referring to the Waters pistol, which I have seen advertised, and in fact own. This was a much more ornate pistol from any earlier period. It is heavily engraved and the lock plate is marked "Jo. Murdoch". Fifteen years ago, or more, a company called Coach Harness, out of England, offered a kit and a finished gun in the same style, with engraving as an option. They are long gone, although a friend of mine bought a kit and put it together. He is a builder of muzzleloaders and very knowledgeable about all aspects of these things, and he said it was the hardest thing he had ever done.
Any way, this book had its first printing in 2000, so I have to assume that the gun was in production before that time. I have never seen one and the online Uberti catalog does not show one. I have ordered a print catalog and hope it is illustrated there. Has anyone seen one of these pistols, are they still available, and if so, what is the price?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
