Just BOUGHT A used 48AL. Took it out to shoot some clays and had problems cycling the target loads. Removed the tension ring on brass friction ring inside foreend and got some heavy game loads to cycle. Still seemed hit or miss though. Is it Ok to remove the tension ring

Anyone have a suggestion for adjusting the action of a 48 AL? There is a screw in holder for the action spring in the stock. I could back off on the tension but am not sure that is part of the design.

I did do a complete cleaning with the exception of removing the trigger mechanism including some spray lubrcant in the action. I am afraid to remove the pins. Might not get it back together again.

Do I need a new springs?

Thanks for your help

Nice gun but I would like it to shoot twice in a row.

Can you give us more to go on? Fails to extract, fails to eject, extracts and ejects fine but fails to feed. Or my personal favorite, I saw a gun once that would eject the empty; the next live round would enter the feed lift, followed by half of the following (3rd) round. We had to remove the trigger assembly to get them unjammed. When we did the whole magazine tube emptied at our feet.

Where in the cycle does yours fail?

It fails in all those ways but the last. Most common is the lack of ejection of the p[revious shell. This happens when I only load one shell. I need to maually eject the spent shell and load another. If I have a shell in the magazine it jams half way throught the load cycle and I need to diassemle the forend to get shell out.

Just seems lik the is a spring too tight or too much friction somewhere.

I will be shooting tomorrow to see if cleaning workded.

Thanks for your help

1. Remove any oil or grease from the outside of the mag tube with gun scrubber. It should be clean but NOT oiled.
2. Make sure you have the governor ring set properly against the friction ring. One side is beveled the other is flat.
3. Install components as follows: On the mag tube, recoil spring, gov. ring (bevel towards recoil spring, friction ring with black ring on. Then assemble the rest of the gun.
4. 20 ga ammo min load 2 1/2 dram 7/8 oz. These things aint meant for light loads and will not cycle them very well. And make sure you hold it well into the shoulder ( you dont have to strangle it but it should be firm). Give these few things a try.
