The disassembly instructions for my 48 AL clearly state that the bolt should freely slide out of the front of the receiver once I've reached that point. However, it appears to wedge at the front inside and will not come out. Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this?

Great. I reassembled after cleaning around the bolt. Should I get a distinctive click when I dry fire for a function test also?

I would say if you have followed the instructions that the bolt should slide out easily. I do not own your particular gun but most semi's bolt slide out once the barrel and the pin that lets you manually eject a shell are removed. If you have a hunting buddy, maybe he could give you a hand.

OK. The 48 AL is a totally different bird. Remove the trigger assembly. To get the bolt out, you must disengage the the plunger from the bolt link by using a screwdriver or a punch to pull the plunger back, the link will then pop upward. Then slide the bolt handle to the rear (its a separate piece that slides), then push the link downward and forward to push the bolt out of the receiver and then remove the bolt handle. These semis probably are the most problematic bolts for most people to remove so dont feel left out. Took me a few times for me to figure it out too. There is also a dance to get it back in that takes some patience.

I bought a 20G 48 AL over 10 years ago from a co-worker. Where can I get assembly/disassembly instructions?
