I have a Franchi 48/AL and I have been having problems with it not ejecting shells. I was using high brass winchester super X 2 3/4 in. 4 shot and it would not eject them. Any expert advice! thanx

Check the recoil assy on the outside of the magtube. Is it clean and dry? If not, clean the parts with gunscrubber and put it back together without oil. Do not use oil on it. Make sure you install: recoil spring, govenor ring(bevel down), and friction ring. Use a little oil on the bolt rails and trigger assy and you should be ok.

Hello to everyone here,
I am a new member. I have a 48 AL in 12 gauge and had problems too with it cycling light loads. Got it modified to handle 7/8 oz loads using 19 - 20 grains of ADI (an Australian company) powder. No problems now.

I stripped the gun down just today and cleaned it but the bushings around my magtub where jammed ontop of one another which was not allowing the spring to move, that and I have three bushings instead of just two. I pulled the bushing apart and cleaned them and replaced them. I took it to the range this afternoon and shot a few rounds and it worked perfectly. But yet I still dont understand how those tempered bushings got ontop of one another or if it will do it again. Thanks for the advice!

luigi,
I have a model 48 Al deluxe 35th anniv edit. Same problem. I couldn't eject hardly any shells. Sometimes high rbass would kick out, but not all the time. The silver bushing was flipped the wrong way. There is a deeply tapered side and a side that is nearly flat. Put the nearly flat part against the copper friction ring. If you put the deeply tapered side towards the copper friction ring, the friction ring will be compressed as it pushes into the taper and will not allow the barrel to slide back.
Thanks,
Casts

From the book:
a. Friction rings may be improperly set. (for your load the beveled side should be matched to the bronze ring)
b. Outer wall of magazine tube may be dry or rusted. Remove forend, clean and lubricate. (definitely keep it clean & lightly oiled)
c. Shooter failed to shoulder gun properly. (the recoil operation needs a firm firing position to operate correctly)
d. Friction ring fits too tightly to tube (a rare occurrence). Spread the black ring that encircles the bronze ring slightly.
e. If you've been interchanging a magnum spring with the standard spring, jamming will occur if you attempt to use standard shells in the gun together with the magnum spring.
Hope this helps - you should also check that you installed the barrel properly. The "base" of the barrel should be slightly below the receiver end. The forend should butt up against the receiver. You can also check for a loose stock - but this should be readily apparent to cause a problem like yours. If none of this helps and there is nothing broken with your Franchi, suspect the ammo - it may be old/contaminated or reloaded to "low" brass levels.

I had a couple different bushings on my shotgun. A copper ring that was beveled, another ring that is just beveled on just one end and then I had two different female rings... I guess my question is I need to know exactly how the rings go in order. I have several different rings but I just dont know how they go together, maybe if I could find a manual on how they go together or something of that sort. My first problem was that one of the rings was ontop of the other one but I dont see how that was possible when the rings were tempered, so I removed the ring and went and tryed it. I bought the gun from a good friend for a fairly cheep price. It came with two different barrels and obviously a various assortment of friction rings, learning how to fit them together would help out a lot. Thanks Luigi

The friction ring set is comprised of three pieces: a bronze beveled ring, a steel split ring that goes over the bronze ring and a steel ring that is beveled on one side. You match the beveled sides for high velocity/express loads flip it around for light loads. The steel ring is always against the spring.
If you have more pieces than this, they are either extra or they may be a magnum friction set - did you get an extra spring? A heavier spring came with the magnum friction ring set.

That is what i needed to know...the gun had a seperate spring which is the magnum friction set. Learning the order sure helped out a lot. Thanks for the advice. Luigi

I also have problems with my AL 48 ejecting shells, I was told to find a Magazine shell hitch part #60560 if this would help, and anywhere I could find the part would, would be apprecaited
