Just shot my new Franchi for the first time. Only got to shoot a box through it before getting called into work. The gun cycled the shells fine, but I'm still having some problems, due mainly to my unfamiliarity with it.
I haven't shot an automatic in quite some time, and this one seems a bit complicated. It doesn't seem to be the gun that you can take out of the box and start shooting without familiarizing yourself with it. And thats exactly what I did.
To Load and unload the thing, it seems like you need a Masters Degree. If I try to chamber a round by pulling the operating bolt, it won't load a shell unless I press the cartridge drop lever. Do I always have to press that **** thing?
Sometimes I was unable to push the carrier up to put a shell in the magazine. Not sure what I was doing wrong there. Other times I was unable to push a shell into the magazine. When I could, I had to push harder than ****. Also, if I tried to load a single shell through the ejection port, when I pushed the carrier release button, it jammed up a couple times.
I never did figure out how to remove the magazine plug either. Anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish that? The owners manual on this thing sucks. It tells you nothing.
Basically, I still like the gun, but I have to figure the **** thing out. I'm going to take it apart, clean it and screw with it till I figure the thing out. I did get lot's of compliments on it.

Here is what I do with my 912. I load a shell in the magazine, press the little red button in front of the trigger guard (not the safety), and then work the action manually to feed a round in the chamber. I then load two more shells into the magazine and I'm ready to hunt. To unload by not firing I once again manually work the chamber emptying the shell from the chamber and closing the chamber back. I press the shell loader up as if I'm loading the magazine and press the action release button on the side, this allows the next shell in the magazine to drop out the same way it went in. As for the plug I have no idea, here in Georgia we are only allowed 3 shots so I legally cannot remove the plug. I hope I have been a help to you. Good luck.

On my 612 all I do is unscrew the forearm cap and tip the gun barrel down and the plug falls out.
