I am just getting into the shooting world and was curious about what requirements are there for shooting, say, clays on someone's property (with their permission of course). Do you have to have a minimum of "X" acres or however far from a public road, or what? I live in SC and did not know if there was somewhere to find this stuff out.

Over here in BC, Canada, you can get a very complete synopsis of provincial regulations free of charge at Wal-Mart and at the local gun shops. These include maps defining what are you allowed to shoot and where (including how far from roads or buildings, etc.).

If that is not the case in SC I am pretty sure you can get all the information you might need from the local courthouse.

Keep in mind that laws concerning the discharge of firearms can be quite ambiguous and convoluted not to mention in favor of the complainant and the officer responding to said complaint. I would make absolutely sure to contact local law enforcement and or neighboring land owners (within sight at least) before I went blasting away in the back yard just to make sure that when the cops do show up you have at least a little understanding of any local ordinances concerning the discharge of firearms in your community (oh yea and hide the beer cans J )
