I have just purchased an model 2000. I have not fired it yet (this sunday I will) but this is what I have found out so far.
Not compatable with any sbe parts (not even the chokes)
Kicks like a mule
Needs to be cleaned really well before it is shot for the first time
Did I miss anything?
Anybody know where I can find a shell catcher?

Chokes are compatible. They are the standard berreta/benelli chokes. Firing pin is interchangeable... and I think that's pretty much it for compatibility.

Kicks harder than gas operated guns.

As far as cleaning, make sure you remove the heavy packing grease around the magazine tube and lubricate with a light oil.

Try to avoid light loads for the first couple of boxes that you put through it. Use 1-1/8 oz with 3 dram eq. or heavier.

Don't baby the gun when closing the bolt. Let it slam with the full force of the spring in order to achieve secure lockup with the barrel. If the lockup is not secure, you'll get misfires.

Thank you for the response. My normal trap ammo is Federal 1 oz shot 3 1/4 dram eq.

Is that good for break in?

I purposely bought this gun so I would not have to baby it, on sale for 309 with 20 off because it was a floor model and had some scuffs.

I really appreaciate your help, I only started shooting a year ago and am trying to learn as much as I can......by the way......whats a "dram eq" anyways?

automatics are by design less recoil abusive in general esp compared to a siimilarly wieghted gun in a pump or single shot or double barrel.

you should be fine with it .. but, if not search the Stoeger Forum here and you'll find a few tips and tricks that guys have came to using trial and error.

dram eq. = Dram Equivilent ... the number relates the powder charge in the load/shell.

hope this helps

I also bought a 2000 last week and was interested in putting on some sort of recoil reducer for when I am shooting heavy goose loads. I am currently looking at either putting a limbsaver recoil pad or getting a Tom Morton mag tube recoil reducer. Has anyone used either of these on this gun or others and what do you recommend. I can only afford to do one or the other at this point.

Nate Do the Limbsaver pad. It's like night and day.

i shoot ultra hot loads, i pack enough punch into a 3 in mag that a 10 ga shell has, and when your shooting at geese, with a jacket on, the kick isnt that bad. even with out a jacket on it doesnt really kick, compared to many other guns that i have, it handles it pretty well. but if your a small guy,or girl, who doesnt like kick, get a limb saver i guess or just wear a down jacket.

I don't think the recoil is that bad at all. I have the Model 2000 in the HDCamo. It is pretty light but doesnt kick as mich as I thought it would.
