Recoil Pad for Stoeger 2000

Would like to put a thinner recoil pad on my Stoeger 2000, to reduce the LOP about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Reducing recoil is not a factor in making this change. Any suggestions or experience with doing this?

I e-mailed Stoeger concerning this subject about two weeks ago, but have not received an answer yet. I was hoping Stoeger made accessory pads for the 2000.

Big thing here is to take your time and don't rush if you choose to tackle it yourself. It will vary by material type but, keep from creating excessive amounts of heat too.

Personally, I've removed the pad after scribing the back side tight to the stock (to prevent any 'oops' marks on the stock and for ease of handling just the pad alone) -make sure you allow for toe and heel angles-. Then with the back side up I worked the pad on a stationary bench sander to keep all sides square and in-line with the stock. Sanding off the scribe line will flush the pad to the stock. *note*Changing to a fine grit once you get to the scribe line will aid in not gouging or taking too much material off and with finishing and polishing of the pad.

Thanks birddog! I've never sanded one down before. I may give it a try. I was hoping for an easier way out! With my winter hunting coat, it tends to hang occassionally. When mounting the gun, I usually push out first and then up and back. But, in the thickets, this is sometimes hard to get right!

If length of pull is the problem you can always cut the stock, although you can always add length if cut too much, it is highly recomended that you let a gunsmith do it for you...I do know that some recoilpads availible are only about .8 inch. , and , they make some that have a "beveled" heel to keep from catching onto clothing...Good luck!!

just another thought ... there is a product called SLICK-EEZ by KICK-EEZ (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=7402&title=KICK-EEZ+SLICK-EEZ) that you could apply to the pad that is clear and won't crack/peel marketed to be 'super slick'.

just another option if you don't actually need to shorten your LOP.

Snuffy I just had my synthetic stock Stoeger2000 fitted and cut down by 1/4 " by Larry Scheetz of Allentown PA. He fitted a plate in the rear which allows me to add spacers to lengthen it if needed. He replaced the recoil pad with one I like even better. Now my shotgun fits! Here is a link to his web site:
