Phil Robertson was born and raised in Vivian, Louisiana. With seven children in his family, money was scarce and at a young age, hunting became an important part of his life.
In the early 70’s searching for a way to turn his passion for hunting into his livelihood, Phil developed and patented the first Duck Commander call. A duck call that would produce the exact sound of a duck, “for duck killers,” he says, not "world champion-style duck callers."
Around this time, Phil also began a series of videos that developed a worldwide fan-base of fellow duck hunters. The “Duckmen” videos revolutionized duck hunting with their rock-n-roll style, and are the leading authority in the industry.
In the mid-70's, Phil turned his life over to the Lord. Today, he spends much of his time speaking all over the country to churches and organizations imparting his duck hunting expertise, and sharing his belief in the Almighty.
Phil is an ambassador for duck hunting - ask him about his thoughts on the state of duck hunting in our country, and I can assure you he’ll give you his opinion. Yes, it's a rough life, but as Phil says "somebody's gotta do it."
Growing up with his father as the Duck Commander, Jase Robertson soon realized that if he wanted to spend time with him, he’d have to meet him in the blind. But it soon became evident that Jase had the same passion for duck hunting as his dad. From the age of 8 years old, Jase spent as much time in the woods as he possibly could, even missing the maximum number of days from school each year that the law would allow.
Even today he shows that same passion and drive to meet his dad in the blind each and every day of duck season for one common goal . . . limiting out. Hunting, along with helping the family business to succeed, consumes most of Jase’s time. Aside from his current role as a duckman in the Duck Commander DVD’s, he runs the manufacturing part of Duck Commander, making sure that every call is hand-tuned, in large part by himself. This part of the business is very important to him as he knows consumers want the best call possible. It is his ambition to give them what they want.
Jase lives in West Monroe, Louisiana, with his wife Missy and their three children, Reed, Cole and Mia.
Willie Robertson has been in and around hunting all his life. Growing up with the family business, he has handled most tasks at Duck Commander from sanding and packaging calls as a youngster, to now serving as president where he runs the day to day operations. Despite traveling a lot for business, Willie is a regular in the Robertson family blind where his comic relief helps when the season gets long and the birds are not flying. Willie is also now taking on a new pursuit - deer. His new company is called "BUCK COMMANDER." Willie, along with his wife Korie, run duckcommander.com and buckcommander.com. They live in West Monroe, La with their four children, John Luke, Sadie, Will and Bella. His job, family, and life are wrapped up in hunting, and he would not have it any other way.
Jep Robertson is the youngest son of Phil Robertson. He works in the family business as a cameraman for Duck Commander. Jep grew up duck hunting so it was a natural fit for him to be behind the camera filming the Duckmen videos. From his experience in the blind he is able to get footage that most cameramen can’t. Jep can also now be seen on Buck Commander.
He and wife Jessica live in West Monroe, LA with their three girls, Lily, Merritt, and Priscilla.
Si Robertson can be seen on almost every Duckmen DVD. He is the brother of Phil Robertson, the Duck Commander and has worked and hunted with the Duckmen since retiring from the United States Army in 1993. Si spends his time making all of the reeds for the Duck Commander calls, working out at the land with Phil preparing for the next duck season, and, of course, when season rolls around, you’ll find him in the blind.
For many years, Mac Owen has been friends as well as business partners with Duck Commander, making the end pieces and many of the wooden barrels for the duck calls, as well as appearing in most of the Duckmen DVD’s. Mac is nicknamed “Biscuit Man” because he is the blind cook, and his biscuits are good! In his off time, he is the head of a ministry called Celebrate Recovery which reaches out to hurting people whatever their problems may be - drugs, alcohol, anger, depression, and life's struggles in general.
Mac says “Life as a Duckman is always busy and at the same time extremely fulfilling. If we are not killing ducks, catching fish, shaping wood, or reaching out to the hurting, we take a break. Our motto is shoot'em, catch'em, and clean'em up.”
John Godwin grew up hunting deer with his father, but once introduced to the world of waterfowl, duck calls captured his attention. He placed 3rd as a teenager in his first calling contest after Phil Robertson “tuned up” his call to make it ready for competition (Phil happened to be one of the judges).
John has worked for Duck Commander since 2002. Some of his duties include, building duck calls, managing supplies and overseeing the shipping department. During the season, however, John’s main title is decoy technician. He figures out the exact spot the decoys should be placed, and works on all equipment after the hunt to make sure it is ready to go for the next days hunt.
John says, “Working for Duck Commander has been a blessing. I am one of few full time employees outside the family. I will definitely say that the Robertson's are very giving and passionate people, and I have become family through Christ.” John can be seen on Duckmen 7-11 as well as “The Art of Commanding Ducks” and “Best of the Duckmen.”
Peggy Sue is a 6 year old black lab born in east Texas. She has been obedience trained but earned her stripes in the duck blind. She has the fire of a 3 year old and never stops retrieving until we have our limit. Phil said a sign of a great retriever is they have to love to hunt as much as he does. Peggy Sue hasn't missed a day of duck season since she made it to Duck Commander.
